Land Use Strategies
Detroit LISC invested in land use strategies for the targeted neighborhoods of Piety Hill, Boston Edison, and the North End. Collectively, these strategic land use investments are aimed at stabilizing and improving the Central Woodward area for residents of the community.

Physical Development: Argonaut Building
LISC is a pioneer in the development and use of New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) to stimulate private capital investment in communities with high levels of economic distress. Adjacent to the Central Woodward commercial district, LISC provided NMTC financing through our affiliate the National Equity Fund (NEF) for rehabilitation of the historic Argonaut Building.

Commercial Corridor Revitalization
Detroit LISC has invested in New Center Council to implement strong economic development projects making Central Woodward a more attractive, viable, and marketable retail district.

Greater Detroit Centers for Working Families
Detroit LISC and United Way for Southeastern Michigan have partnered to advance the financial stability of families and individuals in our community. This partnership created and manages the Greater Detroit Centers for Working Families, a network of high performing non-profits that provide the services. The Annie E. Casey Foundation developed the model for this work.

Community Safety Initiative
Detroit LISC invested the seed funding for the community safety initiative in Central Woodward, and brought the national LISC Safe Growth training program to the area. Detroit LISC also provided the funding to hire the Community Safety Coordinator at Focus: HOPE.
